Crisis and Critical Incident Support
Crisis and critical incident support is not counselling or psychotherapy, it is a specialised mental health intervention which takes place as soon as possible after the incident. It is sometimes referred to as ‘emotional first aid’ .
While it may seem that workplaces outside of emergency services are less likely to encounter a critical incident or crisis, this is not always true. Some of the reasons you may consider calling in a critical incident support is after the suicide of a colleague, a workplace serious injury, accidental death in the workplace, events which attract press attention or any other significant event where considerable emotional distress could be caused to the people who have witnessed it.
As a Halcyon team we can offer businesses and organisations support after a workplace crisis or incident. This may require an individual or team response depending on the nature of the incident or the number of people involved.
Mags Beardow has undertaken training accredited by the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation and is trained to decide depending on the type of group (known or unknown to each other), the exposure to the incident and the time elapsed since the incident took place as to the appropriate type of CISM (critical incident stress management) package that should take place.
If you are interested in putting together an organisational critical incident response plan for the future or wish Halcyon to offer your employees support after a workplace crisis or critical incident please contact Mags.
